Witch Hat

Published May 8, 2013 by sunhealersblog

I just Love witchy stuff…  This is a very simple activity to do with your children for arts and craft time.  You may need to help making the cone, depending on how old the child is.

Witch's hat

You will need:

  • construction paper ( 2 black, 1 purple)
  • scissors
  • tape
  • yellow  marker
  • glue

What to do:

  1. Use one of the black piece of construction paper to make the hat by rolling it into a cone and gluing or taping together.
  2. Cut an inch strip out of the purple construction paper.
  3. Draw a buckle in the middle of this strip and color it in with the yellow  marker.
  4. Glue this around the larger end of the cone.
  5. Use the other black piece of construction paper to trace around the larger end of the cone.
  6. Then draw a bigger circle around that smaller circle.
  7. Cut them out.  This will be the bottom end of the hat. You will have a hole in the middle.
  8.  Tape it together  to the cone from the inside.  Gluing it will be too hard and sloppy.

Black Cat Lantern

Published May 1, 2013 by sunhealersblog

I love lanterns.…  Real ones, fake ones.  Something about candles and light.  Well, here is an example of a paper lantern that looks like a black cat.

Black cat lantern

You will need:

  • 2 black construction paper
  • scissors
  • plain white paper
  • either pink and yellow construction paper or paint
  • black paint or a black marker
  • glue

What to do:

  1. Take the black construction paper and place it in front of you horizontally.
  2. Cut an inch strip vertically across from one of the sides.  This will be the handle.
  3. Fold the paper in half, long ways. (like a hot dog, not a hamburger)
  4. Then cut lines about an inch apart from the middle where it’s folded, leaving an inch border at the end of the paper on both sides not cut. (Do not cut all the way through.)
  5. Roll the paper in the shape of a cylinder and glue it together.  (This is the lantern)
  6. Glue on or tape on the handle for the lantern.
  7. Take your plain white paper and cut 3 centimeter wide pieces about 3 inches long.
  8. Glue them on for whiskers.
  9. Either paint on with pink paint or cut out a small triangle out of the pink construction paper for the nose and glue it in center of the whiskers.
  10. Either paint on with yellow paint or cut out 2  circles out of the yellow construction paper for the eyes and glue them on, above the whiskers.
  11. Either paint on black slits in center of eye or use a black marker if using the construction paper for eyes.
  12. Cut out 2 ears from the other black construction paper and cut an inch slit in middle of ear at the bottom. (This is so that the ears slide in otherwise they won’t stay up correctly.
  13. Cut out 2 smaller rounded triangles as the insides of the ear and glue it on or paint it on with pink paint.
  14. Place the ears in front of the handle.
  15. Glue on the ear to make it stay on.

DIY bats

Amazing what you can make out of egg cartons.  I made these bats out of recycled material.  I painted blood dripping down from their mouths as they just finished feeding.

To make these scary bats you will need:

  • egg carton
  • paint
  • something sharp to punch a hole with
  • string or rubber band
  • (craft eyes and glue, optional)

What to do:

  1. Separate 3 cups from an egg carton.
  2. Cut out part of the bottoms of the 2 outside cups to resemble bat wings.
  3. Paint the bat. (black)
  4. Add eyes, a mouth, and decorate.
  5. Hang it from a string or a rubber band.

DIY spiders

Yesterday I made spooky eyes with a recycled egg carton.  Today I took the rest of the egg carton and made Halloween spiders with what was left over.  Another great idea for kids and family to do together.

How to make DIY Halloween spiders

You will need:

  • egg carton
  • paint (black)
  • glue
  • 2 small craft eyes ( or you can paint them on)
  • scissors
  • 4 pipe cleaners cut in half

What to do

  1. Separate one cup from an egg carton.
  2. Using a sharp object  make 8 small holes (4 on each side) at the base of the cup.
  3. Paint the cup. ( I used black.)
  4. Insert a pipe cleaner into each of the holes for legs.
  5. Draw a face or glue the small craft eyes on.  You can paint a mouth on as well.

DIY halloween eyes

Find out how I made theses spooky eyes out of an egg carton.  Make your own DIY props for Halloween this year recycling what you already have around the home.  A  perfect activity for kids and the entire family.

How to make Spooky Eyes out of  recycled egg carton:

You will need:

  • egg carton
  • paint
  • scissors
  • glue
  1. Cut horizontally across the egg carton so that you have 2 cups.
  2. Cut the pointy part from inside the lid of the egg carton.
  3. Paint inside the egg carton cups. ( I used black and red as border for  one.)
  4. Using white, paint the eyeballs at the bottom of the cups.
  5. Use red for the eyes and black paint for the pupil right in the center.
  6. Paint the pointy part cut out previously and glue on directly in the middle where wedge is.
